Inspiration
Grandpa Bernie was a passionate genealogist. He was my great grandpa. After he passed away, his important work in genealogy was lost. Last summer, I fell in love with genealogy and began to uncover new connections and stories.
The Connection
As kids we went to my great grandparents house every Sunday. we would play with grandma’s make-up and sleep under the coffee table as the adults chatted. since their passing we often reminisce about this small house. It means a lot to our family and I wanted to find a way to bring this memory back to life.
Molding Memories
What I did
I had this crazy idea to recreate their home in VR. I learned blender and began to sculpt their house mostly from memory with the help of family videos. I tried to not only focus on how her house looked but also how it felt. Using the sound of birds, wind, their favorite movie and sunlight. In the VR view I made it so that the audience was the size I was walking around my Gran Mary’s and Grandpa Berni’s home. I’m currently woking on the rest of the house.
